The wonders hidden in the woods of Ferdinandea in Calabria

The forests of Ferdinandea in Calabria guard many wonders. They are not just beautiful nature places. The thick trunks of beeches and firs hide, almost to protect them, treasures of industrial archeology, churches, old ironworks, hydroelectric power stations, made even more suggestive by the nature that surrounds them.
I know these places very well because I am a lover of nature walks and photography. Furthermore, I am an engineer and have studied these places since the university.
Come with me during this naturalistic walk through the woods of Ferdinandea. Usually I leave my car in the square of Ferdinandea. I go back on the provincial road up to the bridge on Chiesa Vecchia river. Then I go back towards the picturesque iron and steel village where, among the ruins of the foundry and a blast furnace, there are the remains of a small church. Then I continue along the Stilaro area, following the channel of the Cino Canzio hydroelectric plant up to the Diga Giulia and then again up to Bivongi and the Marmarico plant. In these places immersed in silence, broken only by the sound of the water, the custodian of the plant lived. It is curious to discover what these men have built during the hours spent in solitude in the woods. Finally, I have a relaxing break at the pond on the Stilaro, the perfect location to take some nice pictures.
Time seems to have stopped in the last century here, in the Calabrian forests of Ferdinandea. Are not you fascinated by these places? Contact me if you want more information.
