The Vicenza's foothills band has enjoyed during the numerous battles of the First World War, and the complex of Monte Grappa it is a living testimony. The military shrine has solemn shapes and sizes: hosts tens of thousands of Italian and Austrian soldiers who fell during the battle spoils del Grappa, many of which are unknown. The Vittorio Emanuele III gallery is instead a tunnel dug for defensive needs by Italian soldiers, which is still alive the memory and the passage of everyday life in the trenches. In the nearby Historical Museum of the Great War collect objects, documents and all sort of stuffs remembering the hard life under the bombs. The city of Bassano del Grappa is a stone's throw away: the town has provincial capital aspirations and it's a lively meet point, Bassano is famous for its Ponte degli Alpini, its landscapes and distilleries of grappa on its territory.
