Lucera, an ancient city beloved by Augustus, has been involved in various historical adventures.
We will retrace them starting from a walk in the historic center in search of signs of the reuse of Roman and marble materials in medieval and seventeenth-century architecture.
We will visit the Civic Museum G. Fiorelli and the Cathedral commissioned by the Angevins to show their power over the previous dynasty: the Swabians of Frederick II who brought in this town a Saracen colony from Sicily, because rebellious but very productive. We will visit the Palazzo Cavalle-De Nicastri and its original rooms from the early 1900s. We will also visit the historic center with its Saracen towers and inscriptions used as construction material.
