Tour of taste. The “Street food” and the alleys of Palermo
In Palermo the street food is not simply food served on the streets that should be eaten, but it represents a moment of conviviality to share with family and friends. The Sicilian art to know how to convert low value food into delicious and appetizing dishes is really a cultural record, a form of folk art.
The colors and fragrance of a market stall, the traditional and tasty “panino panelle e crocchè” (sandwich with chickpea flour fritter and potato croquettes), the beauty of the palaces and churches of the historical center is only the beginning of a sensory journey in Palermo that still has its roots in the past.
The tour starts in Piazza Marina with a tasting of “arancine” (rice balls) and “panelle e crocchè”. Then it continues along Corso Vittorio Emanuele to the famous “Focacceria San Francesco” to enjoy the “panino ca’ meusa” (bread with spleen), a true gastronomic delight!
Furthermore, the tour continues with a walk through the typical and ancient alleys of Palermo, where the road, constructed for horse-drawn vehicle, has not changed significantly. Finally, in Piazza Kalsa we will taste snails with olive oil, garlic and parsley and the “frittola”. It is a dish for connoisseurs!
