The markets of Palermo

The markets of Palermo

You can't really experience Palermo without discovering the oldest city's markets: the Vucciria, the Capo, the Ballarò. They were born during the Arab period and they have been opened since Medieval Age every day and all year. They are vibrant, colorful and noisy and you can walk into them. You can have a truly experience inside the old Palermo. Every artist could find inspiration inside the market, as Renato Guttuso did in 1974, painting "The Vucciria". The markets today are alive and multi-ethnic places, in which most of the Bangladeshi and African community live. This itinerary includes a visit of two historical markets of Palermo, where you can taste the typical street food: bread and panelle, arancine, sfincione. During the tour I will lead you through the most mysterious alleys of the old Palermo, I will teach you how the street food was born and I will tell you the fascinating legends that were born amongst the winding streets of the markets, such as the legend of the Beati Paoli. I wait for you in Palermo to start this adventure together!
