Cala, Kalsa, Foro Italico, the Marina plain have always been places that tell, in their cyclical turn, the alternating and sometimes incomprehensible events marking the essential link of Palermo with its sea.
The walk ideally retraces a period of time going since the founding of the city to the present days. Starting from Cala, the ancient port, it proceeds towards Piazza Marina, the Arab quarter of Kalsa and the baroque churches, then Foro Italico and Villa Giulia, finally arriving, after crossing the St. Erasmus plain, to the Ecomuseum Mare Memoria Viva. The ecomuseum, with its interactive multimedia language, tells in an absolutely new way, the life of the old fishing villages and the events that caused the coastal decay, its slow destruction and the shift away of the city from the sea.
During the walk, two "community" moments will be offered. The first one is a meeting with the sisters of the Father Messina Institute (at Foro Italico overlooking the gulf of St. Erasmus), an active and determined priest, founder of the "House of work and pray" for the hospitality of orphans. The second meeting is with a cooperative of fishermen still operating at Sant'Erasmo.
