Riding on Le Mànie plateau
MTB Tour # 1: Le Mànie Length 32 km, starting elevation 5 m, maximum altitude plateau 370 m
It starts from the forecourt of the church Finalpia. Then going up the Sciusa Valley and then climb to the Val Ponci, admiring the fabulous Rocca di Corno. Then it goes over a short section of the ancient Via Julia Augusta, an ancient Roman road with some still viable Roman bridges and other ruined. Also left this valley is gradually reaching the plateau of the Manie, in the vicinity of the Arma, a large cavern, a place frequented by man since ancient times. On the plateau you can choose many paths for fun, try some downhill or do some exercises, then we head towards Semaforo, police station used for radio communications, located on top of the cliffs of Capo Noli. From here we begin the descent to Noli, an ancient village that has had a lucky past also as small maritime republic. During the descent you can also admire the Grotta dei Briganti (also called Falsari, the Counterfeiters), the Eremo (Hermitage, wooden building overlooking the sea in a colonial style similar to a cabin of a ship, built by Captain Enrico Alberto d'Albertis) and the ruined church of Santa Margherita. As Noli to return to Finalpia it will ride along the Via Aurelia, passing Varigotti.
In the last ten years, Finale Ligure and its surrounding area have become a famous Italian destination for outdoor activities: hiking, climbing, canyoning and every kind of mountain bike activity! The mountain bike came in the ‘Finalese’ with the boom of the '80s, but only in the last decade took place the consecration of this area as a popular bike destination for everyone: for leisure travelers or "Sunday" cyclists, sports enthusiasts, but also athletes and entire teams for official and worldwide competitions! In order to discover this amazing area I offer you my guide for fun and friendly mountain bike tours, an active way to find out villages, breathtaking views and obviously some typical break points. Finale Ligure offers a wide variety and levels of activities: we can just cycling through the city while enjoying its historical sites and architectural beauty; we can visit the plateau behind the towns; we can challenge ourselves with long climbs to reach the top of the highest hills on practise downhill in the woods or along ancient mule tracks. No matter what bike activity you prefer, it will be a great experience to ride on hills looking (almost always) to the deep blue Ligurian sea!
